Open My Eyes
“Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in Your instructions…Don’t hide your commands from me!” (Psalm 119:17-24)
Every once in a while, I’m looking for something in our home. I know where it should be, but I don’t see it. I search the same spot twice, then ask Kelly for help. She walks over, points, and there it is. Right where I was looking.
My reaction is always the same. How did I miss that?
When I was younger, sometimes my pride would get in the way of asking for help. I didn’t like admitting I couldn’t find something that seemed obvious. Now I see the value of another pair of eyes because I know my vision is limited.
Our eyes can be open but still miss what’s right in front of us.
That’s the heart of this prayer in Psalm 119. The psalmist loves God’s word, and still he prays, “Open my eyes.”
Spiritual blindness often hides behind confidence or familiarity. Just because we’ve read God’s instructions doesn’t mean we’re seeing them clearly.
“Open my eyes” is a humble prayer that admits limitation. It trusts that God can reveal truth that has been there all along, waiting to be seen.

Many times things happen around us that seems so overwhelming and we just do not understand. But it is amazing when you take quiet time with the Lord how He does open our eyes and allows us to see that He is working. I am learning to stop fighting the future plans He has for us and to surrender totally to His perfect will. As difficult as it may seem now I know it is His gentle hand guiding us. God is so good. Thank you Matt for this scriptural reminder.
Yes open my that I may see, I pray I do not miss His direction.
thank you for this reminder
