Prone To Wander
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)
Most people don’t drift from God because they wake up one day determined to rebel. They drift because they assume good intentions will carry them. They underestimate their vulnerability and overestimate their spiritual self-control.
God’s word is a guardrail.
Guardrails are placed in the safety zone to keep you from going into the danger zone. You choose them before you need them.
David understood this. When he prayed, “Don’t let me wander from Your commands,” he was taking responsibility for his spiritual growth, knowing wandering happens slowly and quietly.
That’s why he hid God’s Word in his heart.
Guardrails are not for blatant rebellion. Someone who accelerates toward sin is like a reckless driver aiming for the guardrail.
Guardrails are for the slow drift that happens when no one is watching, and nothing feels urgent.
If you know jealousy rises when you compare your life to someone else’s, put a guardrail there. James 3:16 says that jealousy and selfish ambition always lead to disorder and every kind of evil. The guardrail is gratitude and stewardship of what God entrusted to you.
If you know you are prone to lust when you see sexually charged videos or images, put a guardrail there. Jesus said, gouge out your eye if it causes you to sin. This is figurative language that tells us not to treat sin casually.
Like sheep, we’re all prone to wander. Spiritual stability happens when God’s word becomes a chosen guardrail before drift turns into damage.

"Guardrails are placed in the safety zone to keep you from going into the danger zone. You choose them before you need them." AMEN !
This stood out for me as the most important part of this message. Once this is understood, the rest will fall into place. Thanx Matt. Great message !
May I take heed. Thank you for the guardrails.
