Work At Holiness
Atomic Habits for spiritual growth
Hebrews 12:14 says, “Work at living a holy life. For those who are not holy will not see the Lord.”
I used to think holiness meant being flawless or spiritually elite. Neither holds up in real life. When holiness feels out of reach, most people either pretend or stop trying.
So what is a holy life?
It starts with God. He is holy, set apart, unlike anyone or anything. When Isaiah saw the Lord on His throne and heard, “Holy, Holy, Holy,” he was undone. He saw the Lord clearly and saw himself as he really was.
The closer you get to the Lord and his holiness, the more you see your own unholiness.
A holy life is living completely and fully set apart to God. It’s learning to let God shape your desires instead of being led by whatever feels right in the moment.
Most people don’t drift into holiness. They drift into what’s easy. That’s why Hebrews says, “Work at it.”
The Holy Spirit brings conviction and clarity. We choose how to respond. And that response is formed through small, repeatable habits.
1. Build a daily Bible reading habit.
Set your alarm ten minutes earlier. Put your Bible next to your phone. Before you check anything else, read or listen for ten minutes. His word transforms us.
2. Build a prayer habit.
While you drive, before turning on a podcast or music, pray for someone by name. Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart and respond to what He shows you.
3. Reflect on God’s character daily.
Before you head to lunch, write down one characteristic of God you want to know more deeply and reflect on that day.
Holiness is formed over time. Start today with one action and repeat it until it shapes your life.

Loving the practicality you are providing!
Jesus emphasized righteousness and obeying the greatest commandments which are to love God and your neighbor as yourself. Loving your neighbor leads to a life of service. Do you understand holiness as being like righteousness, or are they different? Thank you.
